WSJ vs. NYT on NMA: Taiwanese CGI geniuses take on NYC newspaper war

The Taiwanese tabloid animators recently profiled in Wired have done it again: a CGI retelling of the war between the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Animated Arthur Sulzberger, and Rupert Murdoch striking a Michael Bay action-movie pose, flanked by helicopters.

More cool rolling shutter effects

Andrea James is a Los Angeles-based writer and troublemaker.

Last week, Mark posted a shot of a boy blinking in a photo but with his eyes open in a reflection.

In the comments, several people explained that this was a rolling shutter effect. You can get something similar panning many DLSR cameras too quickly back and forth, causing a "jello" effect on solid objects. Commenter knodi shared a still of his propeller showing the same effect. You can get the same trippy effect in video based on the frame rate, as seen in Steve Talkowski's video above.

Monstrous Wildlife: Graboids

Andrea James is a Los Angeles-based writer and troublemaker.

Following up on David Ng's great biodiversity posts, here's a nice video on graboids. If you only know about these land sharks from old skits or classic cartoons, filmmaker Frank Robnik put together this nicely animated piece that dispels many misconceptions about these misunderstood creatures. Great score by Sebastian Birkl, too!

50 Cent Meets Rainn Wilson

Sean Bonner is one of the guys behind Metblogs, Neoteny Labs, Crash Space and has previously been involved with art galleries and record labels of the punk rock variety.

Inspired by the smooth wordsmithery 50cent has been dropping on twitter, my lovely wife Tara Brown decided to whip this imaginary chat between him and Rainn Wilson using their actual tweets. While this conversation never happened, when you watch this, you know it totally could have. [video link]

You can't stop watching, try as you may. The fact that it's from Japan is beside the point. Dancing Gay CGI Horus-men, in Speedos! — Xeni Comments: 23

Slow-motion video of Lindy Hop dancing

What could possibly be sexier and dreamier than those slo-mo videos of female tennis stars, Boinged earlier today? Why, this Discovery Network slo-mo video of professional dancers Nick Williams and Carla Heiney, doin' the Lindy Hop. Speed gives them the momentum they need to execute dance moves like the spin. Slowth gives us the ability we need to—well, to drool over how physically impossible it all seems. For audio accompaniment, may I suggest some Sigur Rós, or a Justin Bieber Xanax Remix?

"Hardcore vaping" electronic cigarette video review is full of both nicotine and LOL

Please don't tell anyone that this is, in fact, a completely fake "e-liquid" review for the electronic cigarette/vaping community created by prolific video-lulz creator Liam Lynch. It would be better for the internet if everyone believes it's real.

RavenVapes5v510 does yet another e-liquid review for a rare Mega-level nicotine RY4 by Vapor Station. RavenVapes5v510 is a hardcore, experienced vaper that resides in Los Angeles, California. He has been vaping for 7 years and reviews a wide range of vaping liquids, devices and accessories. RavenVapes5v510 in no way cares about your comments or discussing/debating his opinions.
